La Costa Town Square Meeting – URGENT
For those living in La Costa Oaks, La Costa Valley, La Costa Ridge and La Costa Greens – this may be important to you. We are trying to keep everyone up to date on what is happening with La Costa Town Square.
The construction and tenants will likely affect our local traffic and home values. A few months ago, the developer, Aspen Properties had one tenant signed – Kohls. As you may know, a few weeks ago, Kohls decided not to move into La Costa Town Square. Gretchen from Aspen Properties stated that Kohls may instead be moving into the building previously occupied by Home Depot Expo. Aspen is currently in discussion with Vons and Ralphs to instead be the anchor tenant.
We have attached a document that states Aspen’s position and plan going forward. We have also attached a letter we received from the City of Carlsbad. The City of Carlsbad is hosting a planning commission meeting this Wednesday, July 1st at 6 pm at 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive to discuss the project. This is an OPEN meeting and we are all encouraged to attend. This does affect us all, and this is a great opportunity for your voice to be heard. If you have any questions, please call us at (858) 205-2000.

Sammy’s Woodfired Returns to Carlsbad
If you live in La Costa, Carlsbad, or Oceanside, you may have had the opportunity to eat at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza off Palomar Airport Road. In July 2008, a fire started at about 8 am that burned the restaurant almost to the ground. It took a number of months to get through the Carlsbad commission and start rebuilding. But the Carlsbad, CA Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza re-opened its doors on June 18, 2009 and is open for dining!
I love the Carlsbad, Del Mar, and San Marcos Sammy’s because of the gluten-free pizza. Although not quite as soft, fluffy, and chewy as its typical wheat filled counterpart, it is a wonderful pizza – especially for those of us who really love a great pizza and try to limit the amount of gluten in their diet.
If you have any news about your favorite Carlsbad or La Costa businesses, please contact us. We always want to keep the community up to date on favorites or community news!

NEW Encinitas Farmer’s Market
One of the best things about living in Encinitas, La Costa, and Carlsbad is the fresh produce! I’m originally from Indiana. My idea of vegetables included corn, potatoes, and tomatoes. I had never had an artichoke or an avocado or asparagus until I moved to California!
Then I found out about farmer’s markets. No matter how great the produce may be at the Carlsbad Costco, or the La Costa Henry’s, or the Carlsbad Jimbo’s – nothing beats the freshness (and often the price) of the local farmer’s market.
The New Encinitas Farmer’s Market is open on Sundays from 2 pm – 5 pm at Flora Vista Elementary School at 1690 Wandering Road, Encinitas – 92024. The farmer’s market is designed to serve inland Encinitas, Olivenhain, Rancho Santa Fe, La Costa, and San Elijo, where there are no community farmer’s markets.
For more information, please call (760) 687-6453.

That Carlsbad Foreclosure is Doing More Than Just Dropping Your Property Value
We already know those Carlsbad, San Elijo, and La Costa foreclosures are dragging down our property values. In many La Costa and San Elijo neighborhoods in particular, the foreclosures and short sales alone have caused our property values to decline over 25%. If you, as a La Costa or Carlsbad real estate seller, have to sell your home – you are competing with that La Costa or Carlsbad foreclosure next door, or the next street over.
But did you also know that the foreclosure is actually putting your property in danger? Most foreclosed properties also don’t have insurance. They are also often vacant – leaving them vulnerable to theft, vandalism, and fires. There are some risks to your Carlsbad home in having a vacant home nearby.
One of the things you can do, is partner up with your Carlsbad, La Costa, and San Elijo neighbors to keep an eye on vacant property. If you ever see anything suspicious – call the police. It IS your problem too!

A Favorite Returns! Casa De Bandini – Carlsbad Forum Shops – Carlsbad, CA
The new Carlsbad, Casa De Bandini had been a local San Diego favorite, at the Bazaar del Mundo, up until a few years ago, when the Old Town State Park did not renew their lease. Casa De Bandini closed their doors, tried to open a location downtown, and just never got the new location off the ground.
Located conveniently (to homes in Carlsbad, La Costa, Leucadia, San Elijo, and Encinitas) in the Carlsbad Forum Shops, Casa de Bandini is anticipating a June opening date. As residents of La Costa Oaks, we spend tons of time at the Carlsbad Forum Shops, and never really took to Yellow Coyote.
Some of our friends and neighbors remember the “old” Casa de Bandini as one of their favorite San Diego restaurants. As such, this La Costa resident is looking forward to their opening. News to follow when we see their doors open. If you have any La Costa or Carlsbad community favorites or any real estate questions, please contact us below.
