One of My Favorite Times of Year – San Diego Restaurant Week – NOW!

Categories: Activities and Events, Carlsbad, Communities, Del Mar, Encinitas, La Costa, Oceanside, Restaurants, San Elijo, San Marcos

San Diego Restaurant WeekYesterday – Sunday, January 17th, San Diego Restaurant Week returned to fabulous restaurants around San Diego County.  The event will run from Sunday, January 17th through Friday, January 22nd.

Whether you are looking to dine in Coronado at Peohe’s, 1500 Ocean at the Hotel Del, or Coronado Boathouse 1887, George’s at the Cove or the Marine Room in La Jolla, or maybe Jake’s or Pacifica in Del Mar, the Chart House in Solana Beach, or Blue Fire Grill in La Costa, there are options for everyone!

Now, in its fifth year, San Diego Restaurant Week is an absolute hit. This was started in 2004 to bring patrons to restaurants for a week after the summer boom, when kids are back in school, and business is typically down. Popular, exclusive restaurants started offering three course prix fixe menus consisting of an appetizer, a main course, and dessert for either $20, $30, or $40.

If you look at many of the restaurants’ menus, you will find that many of them are offering the entire three course meal for less than just the main course on a typical night. For those of you who know me and Mike, you know, we love to do nice things on a budget. I guess it is that financial advisor in me! So, we look forward to San Diego Restaurant Week each year. We always use it as an opportunity to visit some old favorites – or take a new culinary adventure!

This year, due to the lagging economy, the restaurants added a second San Diego Restaurant Week. According the San Diego Restaurant Week published reports, the January 2009 week was the most successful ever – with over 180 participating restaurants and a 22% increase in diners over the 2008 event!

At the San Diego Restaurant Week’s website, you will find a comprehensive list of participating restaurants that can be sorted by price, type of cuisine, or location.  Have fun and happy dining!

My Two Favorite Things… All In One Place – Sunday, January 17

Categories: Activities and Events, Carlsbad, Community Favorites

Pure Barre La CostaFor those of you who know me (Amy) well… you may know that two of my favorite new things in the world right now are Lululemon and Pure Barre La Costa.  Although both have been around for a while – I found Lululemon a year or two ago when they opened a shop in the Carlsbad Forum Shops.  Fortunately Mike is pretty understanding, because I swear I came home with a new top and pair of pants at least once a week for the first couple of months! Want Some San Diego Christmas Spirit? Try Ice Skating!

Categories: Activities and Events, Community Events

Having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit? When our weather is 70 and sunny, sometimes it is just hard to really believe that it is December and that Christmas is right around the corner. One of the things I used to do as a child in Indiana winters was to go ice skating. I remember on my first Christmas in San Diego, it was 2001, and warm! It wasn’t until going down to Horton Plaza one Friday night in December, and seeing the decorations and ice skaters, that it started to actually feel like Christmas!

If this is something you would enjoy doing this holiday season, there are a couple of great San Diego options: Read the rest of this entry »

December Nights – December 4th and 5th

Categories: Activities and Events, Community Events, Community Favorites

December Nights San DiegoSan Diego, CA – Keeping with a 32 year tradition, San Diego’s Balboa Park will open its walkways and its museum doors for the annual December Nights festival this coming Friday, December 4th and Saturday, December 5th.

December Nights is the largest free community festival in San Diego, and typically brings in about 300,000 attendees.  On Friday, December 4th, the event will run from 5 pm to 10 pm.  And Saturday, the event will run from noon to 10 pm.  The December Nights Activities include the opening of the museums each night from 5 to 9 pm at no charge to the community.  The December Nights Activities also include live music, dancing, and entertainment, and the International Chrismas Festival, highlighting the cultures and foods from around the globe.

Parking is extremely limited in Balboa Park – especially when you consider trying to bring 300,000 people into the park.  Please consider public transportation or see December Nights Parking for more information.
