Celebrity Homes – Jennifer Aniston
Mike and I came by our career in real estate through a genuine love for homes. Your home is a place that you spend so much time, and it is ultimately a reflection on your personality, loves, style, and lifestyle! Before becoming so busy – we used to spend weekends just walking around new construction model homes, just because. We still do a lot of this – but our “just because” time has dwindled.
But that doesn’t mean that I don’t still love a great home – and celebrity homes really are the pinnacle – right?

La Costa Oaks Neighborhood Meetings This Week
The La Costa Oaks Board of Directors meeting is next Tuesday, January 24th in the clubhouse. The meeting time is 5:30 pm and will cover things such as past due statements, landscaping requests, and other HOA news.
On Thursday, January 26th at 6:30pm, there will be a City Wide Trails Presentation in the clubhouse. Liz Katabian, Park Planner with the City of Carlsbad will be talking about the walking trails in the La Costa Oaks neighborhood as well as the citywide trail system in Carlsbad.
Maps of the trails will be shared at the meeting and they are available in the recreation office also.
This is a great opportunity to hear more about what is happening in your neighborhood, but also to meet your neighbors! We’re hoping to attend on Thursday night, and hope to see you there too!

San Diego Restaurant Week EXTENDED!!!
YEA!!!! I LOVE San Diego Restaurant Week! Mike and I always grab at least one other couple and go do a restaurant that we would normally never try for a non-special occasion! Last year, we tried The Butcher Shop in Kearny Mesa and Firefly in Encinitas for the first time – and loved them both. Who ever would have guessed that The Butcher Shop would become one of our absolute favorite San Diego restaurants?
This year, we met up with some friends, and went down to Flemings in La Jolla at the Aventine. It was FABULOUS! The food was wonderful, and the ambiance was heavenly.
San Diego Restaurant Week started a few years ago as a once a year event designed to bring extra traffic in during the slowest times of the year for restaurants. It has now expanded to a three times a year event – with many restaurants now making it Restaurant (Two) Weeks. The next San Diego Restaurant Week continues through Friday, January 27th.
For those of you who have never tried it – I can’t recommend it enough. Select San Diego restaurants create a special three course menu – with their meal being either $20, $30, or $40 for your appetizer, entree, and dessert. You always end up overeating – but you try so many things you might not have otherwise!
For a complete list, visit the San Diego Restaurant Week website. Reservations are strongly encouraged, as many restaurants are full well in advance – especially some of the San Diego premier restaurants such as Mille Fleurs, Marine Room, and Bertrand at Mister A’s!

Carlsbad Marathon on Sunday – Road Closures
It’s that time of year again! January is here, and we are starting to look at our health and fitness. Although, if you’re just getting into a fitness routine, we hope you aren’t planning on running in the Carlsbad Marathon or the Carlsbad Half Marathon tomorrow!
Even if you aren’t running in the Tri City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon, you might want to be aware of the event, and avoid certain parts of town. Please click here for a complete list of road closures for Sunday.
The marathon starts at Plaza Camino Real on Sunday, January 22nd at 6 am, and the Carlsbad Half Marathon starts at 7:30 am in the same location – Westfield Plaza Camino Real. The Health and Lifestyle Expo will be running from 7 am to 12 pm. This is always a fun event – especially if the weather is good!

Buying Your First California Home – Homebuyer’s Seminar
January 15th, 2012
Should you make a back up offer?
This is always a good question that is asked by buyers. The answer isn’t always a simple one.
I guess the biggest differentiator is if it is a short sale or not.
If it is not a short sale, if you make a back up offer, and the seller has options, they can use the two offers against each other to drive up the price. It also puts the first buyer in a position where they may accept the house under less than ideal circumstances solely because there is a back up offer that might take it if they don’t. It gives the existing offer less bargaining power, giving the seller advantages over both of you!
If it IS a short sale, it may be completely different! Because short sales typically take a very long time to get bank approval, it is very common that after making an offer, the original buyer may have found another property, and have moved on. So the bank will often quickly move on to the back up offer.
Each situation is different, but when you find a home that you might like, talk to your Carlsbad real estate agent to discuss your negotiation strategy. They will determine what might be best for your situation, especially based on how much you may want THAT house!
